A Chicken *look*

If a chicken can give a look, here's one. This is Mallory. I took Joey (the parrot LOL) outside to hang out tonight and figured he should go say hello to the chickens. Joey doesn't see the chickens too often but when he does he just laughs and laughs at them and this white chicken came over for a closer look and stood there like this for quite awhile. LOL I wonder what was going through her chicken head?

Beautiful Evening

I decided that instead of cleaning the night away or doing tons of laundry I would go outside with the kids after dinner. I'm glad I did, it cheered me up some!

Colby and his friend played basketball and took turns with Riley riding the dirt bike. Mike took a spin on it with Jack and then walked around the yard with him looking at plants and trees. Bunny ran around on her tie-out wishing to be free :o( and Joey played happily in the rocks and dirt. I think a fun outside time was had by all and we need to get out there more often! Spring has sprung finally!

Mad Mama!
Update on Mickey = not good. She is probably pretty upset! Yesterday I went out to gather eggs and she was sitting in a different box, on different eggs. I felt her eggs, (I knew which were hers because I marked them LOL) hoping to shove them back under her but they were cold. It looks as though another hen or two layed eggs in her nest when she got up and those eggs somehow broke and were eaten up. (If eggs get cracks in them or leak the chickens devour them like cannibals.) Poor Mickey had tried to sit back on her eggs with the broken ones and was covered in egg yolk and so were her eggs. I had to take them from her and get rid of them. She is still trying to sit on eggs so I keep putting her outside since she doesn't understand. Hopefully she gives up soon and will try again next year. These things happen! I'm just glad the eggs with chicks in them didn't break since I'd have to see that.......I never want to see that!

Babysitters
Many people think chickens are stupid. I'll be the first to tell you I have witnessed first hand that they are not! They are always thinking.
Mickey is still sitting on four eggs but she has to get up to eat and drink and take poopy breaks so I worry she'll get back on the wrong nest and her eggs will get cold. (She HAS done this once that I caught and my MIL's chicken did this.) Well, I shouldn't worry about her. This morning I went out with their water and there was Mickey, wandering around off her nest..... I look over and in the nest are two other hens, crowded but sitting peacefully. I thought "what the heck???" and approached them to shoo them out and put Mickey back in. These two girls b*tched me out to no end and I didn't want attacked so I just let them be and came back inside. I figured if she gets off her nest, no babies for her! Curiosity got the better of me though so I went back out a minute ago to see what was up and there was Mickey, back on her eggs and the other hens were in other nests. I think she hired babysitters! LOL

Jack's Funnies
I have finally decided to put down the things Jack says daily that make us laugh. He is at the age where his personality is really starting to show and he is quite the character. Already today he's made me laugh twice. :o)
The first time, I was helping him get dressed and singing a Cat Steven's song. I think I sing Cat Steven's pretty dang good but Jack thought otherwise and said "Stop singing that you're makin' me sick." :-O Then he started singing it.
The second time I was moaning and groaning again about being sick. I'm so sick....it's supposed to be a sinus infection but isn't going away and my head hurts so bad I layed down on the couch and said "help me Jack, I'm so sick!" He looked at me and said "I not a doctor, I Jack!" Yesterday he brought me a cup of water (I was laying on the couch, sick LOL) and said "here, this will take the sick away." :o) He's a nice little boy sometimes!

Report Cards

I'm so proud of my boys! Riley got straight A's again and Colby did very well also, bringing his grades up considerably. I told Mike they did so well they should be rewarded with an Indian's game and he agreed! They can't wait!

The girls aren't home but I will see what their grades were tomorrow. My guess is straight A's (or close) for Lexi and Micah will be grounded. *sigh*

Chicken Chase
Jack and I played outside with the chickens a bit today. They really like him and chase him all over the place! We also got three rooster crows in this video.....from all three roosters! :o) We have so much fun with our chickens.

Jack

Jack just loves going in the messy basement and driving around in his Mustang. :o) I really like this pic of him, he looks so handsome. :o)

Mickey
This is Mickey, Colby's black hen. She's been trying to sit on eggs for awhile now but it's been too cold so I've been taking them from her. Now of course, it's SPRING so I'm letting her have at it! She had 5 eggs under her last night but I took 3 of them and left her two to hatch. Somehow she obtained 2 more eggs today though so I give up and she gets 4 babies if they all hatch. :o) I took them today when she got off her nest to mark them and once she realized they were gone she started chattering away. I gave them back and she shoved them all back under her and gave me a scolding. Chickens are so cute! It's especially fun to watch them be Mamas!
I guess if she stays on this clutch the babies will hatch around the 28th.....if she gets up and gives up there is another little hen out there that tries off and on to be a Mama so I'll let her. Yay for babies!
